India Reduces Special Taxes on Fuel Exports

30 September, 2026

India reduced the excise taxes on gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel exports with immediate effect, according to a government order reported by Reuters.

The tax on diesel exports fell from 25 to 20 rupees per liter; the tax on gasoline was reduced from 1.5 to 0.5 rupees per liter, while the tax on jet fuel fell from 19 to 15 rupees per liter.

So-called windfall taxes allow governments to adjust the tax burden on certain sectors in response to exceptional market circumstances. Changes to these taxes can affect exporters’ margins and international marketing decisions.

For energy and foreign trade companies, these changes highlight the need to periodically monitor sector-specific taxes and their impact on costs, prices, and profitability.
